5 weeks in Europe! Great Carry On
By VMH
I purchased this luggage in black for a 5 week trip to Europe for which we planned to use one carry-on and one personal item, both Pacsafe anti-slash/ anti-theft/ RFID blocking backpacks. The requirements for the roll aboard were:* As we fly standby often; it had to be considered a roll-aboard/carry-on though we would be checking the bag on some of the flights. We used three different airlines, paying for the bag on the European economy carriers since they often only allow 1 carry-on total. The bag held up through all of this very well.* It had to be expandable in order to carry back all the goodies (usually liquids) that were to be acquired on the trip and then could be considered checked luggage and my one free bag on most US airline companies.* It had to be lightweight so that my allotted pounds/kilos went to what was to be packed inside, yet sturdy. The carry-on measurement restrictions seem to vary by airline and country. My measurements of this bag are (approximately): 21.5" h (with wheels but not top handle) x 14"w x 10"D/12"D (expansion zipper unzipped). All measurements are without compression or expansion by contents. The bag has two carry handles one on the top and one on the sides; both of which seem securely attached and are useful at different times. It has two wheels in the back and a stand bar in the front. For the most part it would remain upright on its own accord, though it was a bit unsteady when fully packed, expansion space used, and could start to tip forward. It rolled well and handled curbs and cobblestones without any difficulty. I liked that the sturdy pull handle would telescope down and be enclosed in a zipped pocket. The pull handle has several positions so one can adjust the length. It extends 20.5" beyond the top of the bag when fully extended with other stops of about 17.5", 9.5" and 7" (though to get these shorter two heights, you must first push the handle all the way in then bring it back up.)The interior was fine, there is a long narrow mesh zip pocket running along the hinge side of the bottom of the bag, useful for small items. The bars of the pull handle are underneath the fabric liner but with my 7.5 size shoes, I was able to fit a pair of shoes along either side of the handles and fill the rest of that space with rolled clothing. The center area between the two rods of the pull handle is a perfect place to store all the delicious European chocolate bars I acquired along the way.The lid has a separate compartment that had a padded strap to hold in things like folded suits and I liked that it was removable since I do not usually pack suits. However it would be good to have some type of other restraint system that would hold non-suit items (i.e. small things) in place when the lid was opened. There are three exterior pockets. The largest is about 12"w x 13.5" h x 1" D unpacked and the zipper opens the front of the pocket about halfway down both sides allowing easy access. Above the large pocket is a smaller one, 12"w x 6.5"h x 1" d, whose zipper also has two pulls and opens about half way down both sides and which contains the strap for attaching an extra bag (more on this later) and on the front of the smaller pocket is a zipped slot 4"h x 9" w and only deep enough for some papers etc.The carry strap that allows one to attach another bag to the roll aboard is made of normal strap material and one end is sewn into the seam of the main part of the bag. It is one strap with a metal buckle shaped like the number 9, where the strap is threaded through the eye of the "9" and can be moved up or down to adjust the height of the buckle on the strap. Up near where the strap is sewn into the main body of the suitcase is a part of the strap that is sewn into a loop. To use this strap, wrap the strap end around the handle of the extra bag then bring the hook portion of the lower part of the "9" buckle up and slide it into the strap loop. The strap with the addition bag now hangs on the outside of the upper outside pocket and you should zip each of the two zipper pulls up to either side of the strap to ensure that any other contents of that pocket do not fall out. On the plus side the metal buckle is heavy duty without adding a lot of bulk to the upper outside pocket. On the down side it requires two hands where as I used to be able to attached and detach the standard plastic buckles with one hand (minor issue). One recommendation I have is that straps with buckles (similar to those found on the Mother Lode TLS Mini, that my husband carried eBags Mother Lode TLS Mini 21" Wheeled Duffel) be added to this Ricardo bag. That way the contents could be compressed further and since the exterior pockets of the Venice bag, even empty, take up about 1" of the carry-on space allowed, it would make it more likely to be accepted by some of the pickier airlines. With the Mother Lode, he was able to unzip the expansion space, pack the bag really quite full, and then use the straps to compress the bag sufficiently to be able to zip the expansion space back up. I will probably get a separate strap to accomplish the same thing.Sorry for the length of this review however I wish I had had this information when I was searching for new luggage. Hopefully it will be useful to others.

Best Lite Luggage for the money hands down!
By J. Teton
I just got back from a 3 week trip to St Petersburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Paris. Lots of airports, train stations and cobble stone streets.I researched for weeks the best luggage to fit the dimension restrictions by the Euro and American airlines, which had the best durability and light weight in order to fill my case for the long haul. I chose the teal color to easily stand out and the in-line skate wheel design over the spinner wheels that may not hold up to hazards outside an airport.I made the right choice. It is the only "light" suitcase that has total rigid support around all the sides of the case. The stand support on the bottom doubles as a handle to lift. The handle opens smoothly and worked perfectly. The outer pockets are very handy. Inner mesh can keep dirty clothes separated. The only negatives that are minor and why I didn't give 5 stars - the fabric is polyester and will get scuffs. I scotchgaurded the fabric and it helped remove the dirt but if you plan to travel a lot then get a ballistic nylon case. The fabric is not waterproof. The wheel housing is installed with all screws except one rivet so not easily replaced. I wish there was a plastic kickplate on the underside instead of a vinyl strip. This case for the money, especially the close out price, is a bargain. I travel a few times a year and expect this set to last for several years. By far the best out there for the price.

Great lightweight luggage!
By A. Young
I needed to replace an old suitcase that was falling apart, and I read many reviews on travel blogs and consumer sites before settling on this Ricardo Beverly Hills Wheelaboard. I'm glad to say that I was not disappointed: This is a great little suitcase! It's very light (about 7.5 lbs. unpacked), well-constructed, sharp-looking (I got the purple and it looks great in person), and it has a ton of room and zippered compartments for organizing. One thing to note is that the main compartment is divided into a space in the bottom of the case as well as an expandable mesh zippered compartment on the inside of the lid. This is a little bit of a new arrangement for me, but it's nice having two sizable spaces to divvy up your clothes: nice/informal, clean/dirty, etc. The compartment on the inside of the cover also has a suiter strap for keeping formal clothes unwrinkled. One other feature that I really like is the long handle; I'm 5' 10", and the handle reaches a few inches up above my hip when it's extended (I love that, though it may be inconvenient if you're on the shorter side). The case also rolls very smoothly and steadily, and the wheels are big enough that they don't catch when going over gravelly surfaces.I've only had this suitcase for a short while so I can't speak to how long it will last, but it seems sturdy enough that I expect to get some good mileage out of it. As another reviewer noted, I think one drawback might be the fact that the outside of the case is polyester, which means it could easily scuff up. I don't do heavy traveling so I'm hoping that won't be too much of an issue, but it's something to consider if you're on the road (or rather, up in the air) a lot.Still, that's a fairly small detractor from an otherwise great item. Amazon has the suggested retailer's price listed at $200, but they were selling it for $68 when I made my purchase. Honestly, for the overall quality of this case, any price under $100 would be a steal. 4.5 stars!
